Parental Control Step 6

Ok, now your on the sixth and final step. This final step will show you how to make sure that your child doesn’t hack their way past everything you just did to have full control. The final thing you have to do is to make sure your computer boots up from your internal hard drive as a first priority and to password protect the bios so it cant be changed.

I know this might sound very technical but its very simple, ill explain...When you turn on your computer, there is a small set of computer instructions called the BIOS (BIOS is short for Basic Input/Output System) that is accessed before anything else. This is entirely separate from the Operating System that a computer uses, eg Windows XP, etc. and when your computer loads it might default to look for a floppy drive or a cd drive before it loads your windows operating system. What you need to make sure is that it doesn’t look for any other devices ie: floppy or cd drive and it looks to load windows as a first priority … simple, now this is what you need to do…

Step 1. Enter into the BIOS, on some PC's it will say " press 'del' to enter setup some will say F2 or F10 BUT we recommend that you read your PC documentation to find out how to enter the BIOS as all are different.

Step 2. Change the Boot Sequence, Once again we recommend that you read your PC documentation to find out how to do this. Most systems will at least let you choose between "A:, C:, CD/DVD-ROM" in the bios settings, you will need to change the order to C: or HDD, A:, CD/DVD-ROM. The Computer must always boot from the Hard Drive first Not the floppy or cd/dvd drive. This will not affect the way windows runs it just prevents your child from trying to boot from a cd/dvd or floppy and installing another windows operating system to bypass what you did.

Step 3. Password Protect your bios, Once again you will need to read your PC motherboard book to view where to do this. By doing this your child can’t access the BIOS to change the boot sequence or anything else. Remember, when you do set a BIOS password, then forget the password, there is nothing you can do to bypass it or reset it, other than opening up your computer and resetting it manually (if you do forget your password we recommend that you get a professional to reset it for you).

Step 4. Save new bios settings, restart and its done..
